Reflections on the Second “Enjoying Sake with Medicinal Cuisine” Event

On September 9 (Sui-Sui Day), we held the second installment of our “Enjoying Sake with Medicinal Cuisine” event.

September 9 is the “Chōyō Festival,” one of the Five Seasonal Festivals. We kicked off the event with a toast using “hiyoroshi” sake with chrysanthemum flowers floating in it. Since ancient times, chrysanthemums have symbolized longevity and good health. It was the perfect way to begin our medicinal cuisine gathering.

The theme this time is “Restoring Your Digestive Health to Fully Enjoy the Autumn Feast.”
With the aim of nurturing bodies still weary from the summer heat through the power of medicinal cuisine while preparing for the flavors of the coming fall—it was from this perspective that Chef Nakamura crafted the dishes and their pairings.

While the theme of the first session was “Removing Dampness from the Body,” this time we’re moving on to a theme that aligns with the changing seasons. With each session, the relationship between medicinal cuisine and alcohol feels deeper and more relatable.

What particularly stood out this time was the suggestion of a new way to enjoy sake kasu shochu: mixing it with Yame tea or a syrup made by simmering Kyoho grapes. Everyone seemed to be pleasantly surprised by the rich flavors created by pairing it with seasonal fruits. It was a moment that reaffirmed the vast potential of sake.

We received many comments and opinions from all of you, and we were able to take away some valuable insights to apply to our next event.

*This is the second piece.

This program consists of one term with a total of three sessions (held in odd-numbered months), and this term is scheduled for July, September, and November.
*Recruitment for this term's members is now closed.
Our next session, the third one, is scheduled for Wednesday, November 11. We hope all of this term's members will look forward to it.

We are also considering holding the event again in the future. We will provide an update once the details have been finalized.
